"Hunger Games": Read This Great Book Before You...
As far as fitting a novel that was about 200 pages into a 2 hour movie I think it did the book justice.
The movie showed all of the important main events from the book and also included some of the details that made people fans of the book—Katniss’ relationship with her younger sister and the way she feels about the other person from her district, Peeta.
But for someone who...

One Direction: Straight to the Top
The album “Up Al Night” is great. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys pop music and cute boys.
To me the best song is “Same Mistakes” because it is different from what they usually sing and slow and guaranteed to make you cry and feel their pain.
One Direction is a British boy band consisting of Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles and Liam Payne....

I Like the Dalai Lama's Laugh
The man’s giggle is seriously infectious. I’m in Newark for the Peace Education Summit (you’ve never seen so many long haired sandal wearing men on New Jersey Transit so early in the morning).
Here are a couple of highlights of his Holiness’ message of peace for Newark (and the world).
“I am happy, very, very happy to be here,” his Holiness laughed. He smiled at the...

Pulling The Goalie For Fame
Shouldn’t this US headline:

Top Ten Charlie Sheen Quotes From Monday
Charlie Sheen continues to be the media gift that keeps on giving.
I wrote three stories about him today alone.
As he glad handed his way from NBC to ABC to TMZ and anything else with a three letter abbreviation he spewed out some gems for the ages. We all have our favorites. Let’s get some t-shirts made.
1. “I am on a drug. It’s called Charlie Sheen. It’s not available...

In Case You Missed It...Fashion Week Happened Last... →
Alas, Fall/Winter Fashion Week came to a close last Thursday and I am just becoming human (clean apartment, regular yoga, drinking things other than Frappaccino and Skinny Pepsi) again.
But I loved the project I worked on for FW, my series for the Wall Street Journal on the unsung heroes of Fashion Week, from the man who lifts the tents, the dapper guys who toss out gatecrashers, the woman who...
The Real Faces of Fashion Week →
This week I am doing a series of posts for the Wall Street Journal’s Metropolis blog about the unsung heroes of fashion week. Not the designers, not the models and not the girls with the clipboards, the real folks who make the magic happen. Come with me. I promise it will be a pretty good time.
I Like Interviewing Spencer Pratt →
I really do like it. Unlike a lot of Hollywood personalities, Spencer gets that his celebrity is a little ridiculous and entirely manufactured. he makes no bones about the fact that publicity stunts have gotten him and his wife Heidi both publicity and money and that the pair pushed those stunts too far and turned off the public.
You can call Spencer whatever you like, but in a land of smoke and...
If a Nun Falls in the Woods →
I’m a little more apt to pay attention to nun news than the average person since I am writing a thesis on women religious and I have a google alert set to tell me about such happenings. Still, even I was surprised by the lack of coverage a recent survey of new nuns (all 79 of them this year!) got in the mainstream press.
Lea Michele is Trying Too Hard →
I’ve written a lot about boobs this week. Seriously. You can read about it here and here. I think this shows I am on team boob, pro-boob all the way. But something about Lea Michele’s too show-offy cleavage on the cover of Cosmo had me (and plenty of moms) irked. It’s like she’s trying to hard to get attention and break out of the Rachel Barry mode. My take is that since...
Does America Want To See Sober Charlie Sheen Play... →
Or better yet, should a sober Sheen be playing a drunk character? Both answers are probably no. The answer? Write rehab into Two and a Half Men. Our experts say that would be a bust too.
For the good of CBS and to keep America laughing at two mismatched middle-aged men and a gross pubescent teenager, let’s just keep Charlie Sheen drunk.

What's the Grossest Thing You've Ever Put In Your...
That question could go so many different ways, right? But it kept coming up at a dinner I had Saturday night with some very good friends at the Japanese pub Sakagura in midtown. Sakagura has some delicious eats. I’m not sure exactly what they were called but I ate some kind of mashed potato covered in donut batter that I want to have every day for the rest of my life.
We also had some...
I Have To Admit Something
I am addicted to podcasts. I listen to them while I walk the pony, work out at the gym and while I fall asleep. Right around the time my addiction picked up steam, one of my favorite podcasts, Krista Tippett’s Speaking of Faith, changed their name to On Being.
I got the chance to chat the loss of the f-word with Krista last week and talk about how the show has evolved and where it is going....

Better Late Than Never: Hi, Hollywood Stock...
I know that I am all late to this party, but I think I still fall into the fashionable crowd for joiners on the Hollywood Stock Exchange, an online market simulation that lets users “trade” on stars and movies.
I’m starting an account today and writing up what the market predicts what will happen at the Oscars over at PopEater. I’m also trying to figure out a way to work...
Some Upsetting Comments on My Story About Muslim...
I have been working on a story about Muslim-Americans wanting to see more people like them on television for a couple of weeks. And in the process I met some amazing Muslim-American artists and writers who are hoping that remarks by Katie Couric last month, that she’d like to see a Muslim version of “The Cosby Show”, could lead to more Muslims in media.
I posted the story on AOL...
Mormons—Just Like Us
I love Mormons. I really do. I spent three weeks in darkest Africa with a group of ‘em and they weaved their way into a soft spot in my heart.
When I first found out the creators of South Park were making a satiric Mormon musical my reaction was, “Oh Joseph Smith, the Mormons are gonna hate it!” Then I took a step back and remembered what a great sense of humor my Mormon...

God Continues To Sell Movie Tickets!
Disney is making a big push with the faith-based audiences for Secretariat in the hopes that it becomes the next Blind Side. Big thanks to the wonderful faith-based filmmakers I met out at RNA for chatting god and films for this Fox piece.
